Payback’s a bitch

Jimmy stormed up the porch steps, rage like he’d never felt running through him. Just as he lifted his fist to pound unmercifully on the door, it swung open. Logan stood staring down at him like an imperious Czar confronting an infidel.

“I thought I’d be seeing you,” he said, looking both defiant and resolute.

His unflappable nature was something Jimmy was used to, but right now, at this moment? It only infuriated him more than he already was. His fist reared back slowly and plowed right into his mouth.

Wincing, Jimmy cradled his hand in the other. “Damn you!” he cursed loudly.

Friends Turned Lovers

Sitting on the sofa, watching another of her favorite chick-flicks with her head resting on Logan’s shoulder Claire felt utterly content.

“I love you, Logan,” she whispered.

She cringed at her own stupidity. What had possessed her to say that to him? It would ruin everything. He would never want to see her again and he had been the only thing keeping her from swallowing the end of a rifle.

Had she looked at Logan just then she might have seen the goofy grin spread over his face, but it swiftly vanished. Surely she hadn’t meant it the way he’d hoped for so many years. She was just a friend and married to his best friend no less. No, she would never see him as she does Jimmy. They would always be just friends.

Now and Forever by Alexandra Heep

Every once in a while, a friend will allow me to post one of their creative pieces, a sweet poem, thoughtful reflection or a chilling tale. This time I thank Alexandra Heep, who blogs at a Heep of Everything for the honor of hosting one of her many poems.

Now and Forever by Alexandra Heep

Now - it is here in the blink of an eye
It can stay and make a moment so still
Or float on like a cloud and pass you by
It can move quick as lightning if you will

Forever can't be without many now's
For some it is pain, for others it's joy
It's also part of many vain vows
Hard to keep, hard to hold, never a toy

Now and forever beginning or end?
More than words, more than time, they're destiny
Either can break, sustain, or even mend
They cause and affect, never cease to be

Use either wisely and pay them respect
Sages know they bring what you don't expect

Ch2 Insanely Eccentric

“You’re insane! You do realize that, don’t you?” Ben growled.

Jordan grinned at his older brother as he lazily folded his shirt before placing it carefully into his suitcase. “And I keep telling you when you’ve got enough money it’s called being eccentric,” he replied.

“Eccentric is showing up at a business meeting wearing a flowery bonnet and a loincloth. Going to Europe with a complete stranger is insane,” he retorted.

Jordan straightened up looking pensive. “I should do that. Would any of those sourpusses at our corporate meetings even crack a smile if I showed up wearing a loincloth and flowery bonnet? Be worth doing it just to see their reaction.”

Ben glared at him. “Will you be serious for a minute?”

“I am. I’ve been working on my abs. I could get away with a loincloth. The flowery bonnet, though... not so sure about that,” Jordan said.

Ben made his typical growling sound and tossed a pillow at him. “What are you thinking, Jordan? This woman could be a psycho or worse. You don’t know her,” he said anxiously.

Ch1-When Idiot Meets Moron

Jordan sighed and he quickly looked about to find the echo. He had just heard another sigh, one which wasn’t his own. He caught a view of a particularly pretty, though miserable looking woman. She was beautifully dress and sitting three seats away from him at the end of the nearly empty bar. She was also nursing a drink and she certainly looked like he felt.

“Had a rough night too, huh?” he asked.

She lifted her head and gave him a wistful smile. “No more than usual,” she replied, a tiny hitch to her voice belying this completely.

He knew he should stop talking, but misery loves company, and man, did he need company; if it came in the package of a nice lady all the better. He’d take anything right now even if it came with a smack across the face for his impertinence. To be alone was to be thinking and he didn’t need that, not tonight, perhaps not for a long time.

Quashing Rumors

Dominique grinned and said, “Kid, you got a lot to learn about high school. There are no secrets here. That’s why everyone thinks you’re ...uh...well. I’m not going to spread that obviously wrong story.”

Alana turned a deep scarlet. She hoped no one in her inner circle had heard the latest and worst rumor ever. But that obviously wasn’t to be.

“What?” Jake asked frowning. “What are they saying about you, Alana?”

“Nothing, it’s nothing,” Sandy said patting Alana reassuringly on her arm. “It’s false and that’s all anyone needs to know.”

Jake looked ready to rip someone a new one. “It’s Luke, isn’t it? They’re saying stuff about you because of him. I told you this would happen and he probably doesn’t even care. Or he started the talk himself. I’ll kill him!” he shouted angrily.

What It’s Like To Be Born

Ow! What’s going on? Who’s squeezing me? Hey, where did my nice, warm water bed go? Oh, I don’t like this at all! Stop pushing me!

What’s all the squeezing about? Ow! My head hurts. Watch the head! Ow, ow, ow! Uh, what a relief. Whoa! Turn off that bright light. Where’s that awful light coming from? Hurts my eyes. Oh, no, more squeezing. My shoulders are going to cave in if they keep squeezing them together like that. Owwwww!

Ugh, at least the pressure’s off but damn, it’s cold! Oh, I don’t like this one bit. No warm water, too much light and ...wait, what are you doing to me? Leave me alone! Get that thing out of my mouth. Stop poking me. Stop doing whatever it is you’re doing and get me back where I was. I was fine there. I was happy there. Yes, it was cramped but I liked it that way. I was very secure in there. Now this stinks. I’m cold, I’m hungry and I wanna go back!

“Oh, she’s perfect. Look at her, Charlie.”

Hey, I know that voice. She’s real nice. She used to rub my tushie when I was restless. She used to talk to me all the time. She made all sorts of plans for me. She was making a blanket for me. Wonder where it is? I could really use it right now!

“She’s beautiful, Jeanie. Our baby’s wonderful. I love you.”

Hey, I know that voice too. He used to tease me. He called me a linebacker for the Green Bay Packers. He ain’t too bright. I was just dancing to the music I was hearing. Somebody named Shakira, I think. Really groovy stuff. I liked it. But I heard all sorts of music. He might be dumb but he does have a nice singing voice. What song did he sing to me?

♪ ♫… La, la, la....even though we ain’t got money...I’m so in love with you, Honey…♩ ♬ Yeah, I like that song. Sing it now, Mr. Man. Who is that guy? Why’s he rubbing his nose with mine? It tinkles, but I kinda like it.

Whoa, where are they taking me now? Oh, that feels nice. She’s warm and she looks nice. Oh, it’s the pretty voice from before, the tushie rubber. Nice face. I like her, too. Oh-oh, what’s that? Hm, I like it whatever it is. Creamy, tasty, fills up my tummy. This nice lady sure knows how to treat you after a hard day. Oh, yeah, I like that just fine.

Whew! So, that's what it's like to be born. That was rough for a while. But it’s okay now. I’m warm, they’re holding me tight and my belly’s full. This is good. Life is good. I think I’ll stick around for a bit. But right now I need to sleep. I’m exhausted! Nighty-night.
